Guerrilla Midwife

In every country on this planet, there is a WAR being fought to gain an asset more precious than gold or oil. The battlefield is a woman’s body when she is most vulnerable and in need of protection… when she is giving BIRTH. In this war we stand to lose our humanity. At this pivotal moment of life individuals develop either an intact or impaired capacity to love. Protecting our capacity to love is essential to saving our planet. The inappropriate use of technology during birth has disempowered women, harmed the bonding process between mother and child, and has sabotaged breast-feeding and our essential human right to peace. At the heart of this war, perpetuated by the agendas of big business and by our misunderstanding of the physiology of birth, we find the guardian of natural childbirth – the midwife. Tues., March 30, 6:15pm, Museum of Science Theater

A Drop in the Bucket
breakfast with wifey

This film is a timely, hopeful and lyrical tale about people reaching across international boundaries to help provide clean water in rural Cambodia. Over the last two years, I have built fifteen wells with the help of Sam brothers Clean Water Project, and Journeys Within Our Community. I returned in 2009 to make a short documentary on the effects my wells have had on the lives of the people. By telling this story, some of the complexities and challenges involved in giving are revealed. Tues., March 30, 7pm, Museum of Science Theater

A young Okinawan woman, Rei, journeys to America to confront two former Marines convicted of assaulting her ten years ago. She kidnaps Paris, the teenage son of one of the Marines, and holds him captive in a motel. Rei and Paris are drawn to each other, as his father closes in on them.

Set against the ongoing American military presence on the Japanese island Okinawa, the film explores the psychic consequences of occupation, for occupier and occupied. It questions the possibility of transformation for the victim and perpetrators of a heinous crime, finding hope in the hard road of forgiveness. Tues.,March 30, 7pm, Museum of Science Theater
