Jelly

Jelly Woods, like legions of girls of her generation, has succumbed to every silver screen 'John Hughes' happy ending since she was a kid, and it has really twisted her perception. Despite all evidence to the contrary in her own life, Jelly is desperately clinging to the hope that life offers blissful wrap-ups like those in, Some Kind of Wonderful or Sixteen Candles. After a terrible breakup with the love-of-her-life, Luke, not to mention his upcoming nuptials, Jelly throws herself into a whirlwind of emotionally driven predicaments. She turns to her already disenchanted best friends for comfort. In her quest to get Luke back, Jelly gets so wrapped up in herself, finding herself at a cross roads of living in the past or embracing her future.  She only has moments to decide. USA, Thurs. April 1st, 8:30pm, Miami Science Museum.

Safe Delivery: Traditional Birthing Attendants in Liberia
image

As Liberia recovers from civil war, health workers and midwives are in short supply. When village women give birth, they are usually helped by a traditional birth attendant from their own community. This film tells the story of a training programme, developed by the Liberian Ministry of Health and the ICRC, to improve the skills of traditional birth attendants. When the participants complete the course, they know how to help with normal deliveries and when to send women with problems to the nearest health centre. Liberia, Thurs. April 1, 6:15pm, Miami Science Museum Theater.
